Why I got into this industry?
Every little girl loves to dress up and be a princess.
As a child growing up, I suffered from what I thought, and what dermatologists’ thought was a skin condition known as eczema.
For children Saturdays mean, playing outside and having fun. My Saturday meant dermatologists appointments. Every Saturday I would attend appointments…..A simple thing like wearing shorts was something I could not do because I was so conscious of marks on my leg.
Holidays were the worst days. On Christmas day my family and friends would gather at picnic spots and resorts. With tears in my eyes and sadness in my heart, I used to sit and watch my cousins and friends playing in the pool.
Beauty is skin deep but suffering with a skin condition affects your self-esteem, mental health and confidence. You need to feel comfortable in your own skin. I felt mentally tormented as result of constantly worrying about my skin and how I look.
My nightmare started off on my face and moved to my body. Dermatologists said that I will grow out of it. Guess what I never did! Feeling frustrated and “gatvol” I knew I needed to make the change to help myself. I started doing my own research. At that time, I mainly read books and followed old people’s hacks.
I started to notice my efforts were not in vain. My skin started to show signs of improvement! After years of suffering and feeling helpless I suddenly felt inspired. The more I researched and studied skin the more I feel in love with it. I was actually getting results.
This is why I always tell chic’s: “Beautiful skin is not a miracle, it’s about commitment”
The fire was lit. I knew what I had to do! I finally felt like I had a purpose in life. I knew I had to use my passion for skin to create happiness and inspire confidence in chic’s lives. I never ever ever ever want any chic to go through my horror. So, I decided to study somatology at the University of Johannesburg (Formally known as Technikon Witwatersrand).
Through Somatology I can help a chic with her skin and not only make her look good, but I can make her feel good, improve her mental and physical health, and inspire her to be more confident!
